This is an exquisite and luxurious two-piece Victorian (1837-1901) ensemble consisting of a burnt sienna velvet embroidered and fitted bodice with an unusual double-sleeve treatment and a beautifully full, printed silk skirt with built-in panniers under the ruffles of each hip. The skirt has a series of hooks and eyes for closure, as does the bodice. A few of the hooks and eyes from the bodice are missing and there are a few holes under one ruffled pannier, which are not noticeable. Two buttons are missing from the interior of the bodice. Other than those minor flaws. the ensemble is in excellent vintage condition and would comparable in size to a modern day Size 4/6. Both pieces had been purchased together as an ensemble at a vintage clothing auction several years ago. The skirt is lined in a sienna-colored fabric similar in hue to the velvet bodice. The ensemble is exceptional in all ways and its construction has many couture design elements incorporated into it.
