Black Anklet with Pearls and Vintage Lucite Sea Life

The focal of this ocean themed black anklet is a group of three vintage blue silver etched sea life beads from the 1960s. I have been collecting vintage Lucite for years but have never seen anything like these little aquatic lovelies.

Lucite, introduced by DuPont in 1937, was cheaper to produce and therefore often replaced Bakelite for use in costume jewelry by the early 1940's. My stock of these sea lovelies is very limited making this anklet one of only a few!

To continue with the black and blue theme I added deep blue pearls to the black delicate but sturdy plastic chain. Quality plastic chain with delicate links and a nod to Bakelite is a rare find. The pearls and sea life are wire wrapped to the chain with sterling silver.

Anklets are so flattering and flirtatious. Spice it up with a fun shade of nail polish. This plastic chain works well for anklets because it is lightweight and virtually indestructible. Get it wet - no worries. All of my anklets are designed to be water friendly. Great summer jewelry option for the beach or pool. Though here in Austin our winters are so mild that it is not unusual to see anklets and sandals year round.
