Chinese Cloisonné Bangles // Two Genuine Hand Painted on Copper Kiln Fired Bracelets // Vintage Masterpieces

Here are two heavy authentic Chinese cloisonné bangles in vintage Asian style, one old red masterpiece from the 1920s and one younger blue bangle probably from the 1970s. The larger bangle is hand painted a rustic red on the outside and a teal blue on the inside. Pink and blue flowers with green leaves are painted across two sides of the bangle. The smaller bangle is hand painted blue with flowers and gold patterns on both sides. Both bangles have vent holes on the inside to facilitate the firing process. These are elegant exemplars of an ancient art form in excellent condition.

Measurements: The inside circumference of the bangles is 8" the two bracelets weigh 42.3 grams. The width of the red bracelet is 3/8" and the width of the smaller one is 1/4".

Condition: The enamel in the red bracelet shows minor pitting in a few spots. The blue bracelet is in pristine condition.

THE CLOISONNÉ PROCESS: Cloisonné is an ancient technique for decorating metalwork objects using vitreous enamel. The decoration is formed by first adding enclosed compartments (cloisons in French) to the metal object by soldering or adhering silver or gold wires or thin strips placed on their edges. These remain visible in the finished piece, separating the different compartments of the enamel or inlays, which are often of several colors. Cloisonné enamel objects are worked on with enamel powder made into a paste, which then needs to be fired in a kiln. The enamel in the cloisons will sink down a lot after firing due to melting and shrinkage of the granular glass powder. This process is repeated until all cloisons are filled to the top of the wire edge. The enamel is ground down to a smooth surface and the top of the cloisonné wire is polished to a bright luster.
