Fëathelas Healing Salve Leave In Conditioner and Split End Repair

🌿This rich, whipped salve is a leave-in conditioner, damage preventer, and all around invaluable. It not only imparts a rich dose of moisture, it also contains a host of herbal conditioning properties, and then seals it all in with a smooth finishing shine. Although there is no way to mend split ends, Fëathelas Healing Salve will smooth, heal, and protect the ends of your hair.

🌿Ingredients: An herbal infusion of: Distilled Water, Nettle, Sedr, Linden, Calendula, Jasmine, and Slippery Elm, Shea Butter, Refined Coconut Oil, BTMS Emulsifying Conditioner, Ceteryl Alcohol, d-Panthenol, Vitamin E Oil, Optiphen, Honey, Aloe Vera Gel, Argan Oil, Meadowfoam Oil, and the essential oils of Lavender, Lime, Petitgrain, Sage, Benzoin, Peru Balsam, and Vanilla Burbon CO2 Extract.

🌿 Directions: Although designed for hair, Fëathelas Healing Salve also shines as a lotion, cuticle cream, hand and foot balm, and more!

Post-Shower End Protection: Rub a grain of rice-sized smidge between the palms. Starting at the very ends of towel-dried hair, press palms gently together and slide over the ends of the hair. Repeat as necessary, starting up higher on the length of the hair each time until palms are clean of salve. If hair appears greasy when dry, use a smaller amount next time and apply carefully, being mindful to spread the salve evenly. With only such a small amount needed, this jar will last you a very long time!

Deep Treatment: Apply liberally to length of damp or dry hair, let sit under shower cap for 1-2 hours. Wash.

🌿Storage
As unrefined coconut oil melts at 24-25°C (76°F), this product may separate at warmer temperatures and should be stored in a cool place. If it has separated, simply place in the refrigerator and stir often until it is again a solid cream. Fëathelas Healing Salve has a shelf life of two years unrefrigerated, longer if kept cool.

🌿What’s in a Name?: The name is inspired by both Tolkien and my novels, The Iyarri Chronicles. It’s got a few parts so lets break them down:
- Fëa is the Quenya word for “spirit” or “soul, indwelling spirit of an incarnate being”.
- Athelas is a Sindarin word, consisting of athae (broadly inferred to mean ‘helpful’ or ‘beneficial’ + lass (leaf), so healing leaf. This is fitting, because if you think back to the post I did about the herbal infusion that underpins the salve, it’s full of healing leaves and flowers.
- Feathe the front end of the word also shares several letters with ‘feather,’ invoking a lot of imagery in The Iyarri Chronicles. There’s also a healing salve that Irel rubs into Aurelia’s bruised arms in Heaven’s Silhouette, and this is exactly the type of salve I picture him using.

🌿How to say Fëathelas:
The name draws from Tolkien pronunciation rules, but is not intended to starkly adhere to them, because Fëathelas is of course a made up word that was not formed strictly by Tolkien linguistic conventions. Broadly, for Tolkien linguistic rules, an accent on a vowel (á é etc) indicates a long vowel. The sound of the vowel doesn’t change but it is longer. A diaeresis (ä ë etc) is a reminder that the vowel is pronounced separately from the letters on either side of it. This would be the case anyway even if the diaeresis weren’t used. For example Fëanor, without the trema, would be pronounced as FEE-nor. But with the trema it becames FAYE-a-nor. Likewise, Finwë becomes FIN-way. So, it’s FAYE-ath-eh-las

🌿 What’s the meaning of the symbol in the middle of the Fëathelas label?: Hitting again on part of the name drawing from “athelas” and that this is a healing salve, the symbol is a medical cross comprised of leaves.

☀️ 🌡️ Melting Warning: NightBlooming Hair Salves are made to melt in your hands— they can, and will, melt if shipped during very warm weather. During summer months, or in a hot climate, salves may soften, melt, and lose their whipped texture as they sit in warm mail trucks, mailboxes and front porches. If your hair salve has melted in transit, simply place it someplace cool and stir often until it is solid again! It will not regain its whipped texture, and will lose volume in the container, but will work as intended.
