A gorgeous vintage ceramic planter in the shape of a basket, decorated with a colorful bird and flowers. The basket is made from lightweight buff-colored earthenware covered in shiny glaze that recalls the colors of majolica ware: bright oranges and deep dark greens. A pretty songbird perches on the edge, and the sides are decorated with flowers that look like morning glories, except the leaves are more like English ivy.

The piece is not marked, and I can only guess at a date, but it has a decidedly midcentury look. I have not seen another one quite like it.

The basket is in nice condition, with a little crazing here and there and discoloration on the inside, but no chips or cracks. The bottom surface is a bit rough, probably where the piece was originally removed from the kiln shelf. Be sure to zoom in on each photo to see it full-size.

A beautiful basket to display as is, or use as a planter in a sunny kitchen window. It's also a nice size to hold a few vintage postcards or greeting cards.
