These centipede earrings make the perfect gift for the gothic bug lover in your life. Perfect for science teachers, gardeners, entomologists or entomology students -- a true insect lover will adore these (even though technically, centipedes are not insects. But they *are* arthropods, so they're very close cousins!)

One part creepy, one part beautiful. Show the world that there is beauty beyond the obvious places. You just have to look a little harder for it and be brave when you find it.

These earrings are designed to be a mismatched pair, but you can order two with black silhouettes or two with black backgrounds if you would prefer a matched set. Just specify in the 'message to seller' when you checkout and I will be more than happy to oblige.

These earrings are completely handmade in the USA by the designer from pure sterling silver and custom-etched copper plates.

These earrings are just about 1.75” (4.5 cm) tall (from your earlobe’s hole to the bottom of the copper plate) and just under .5” (1.3 cm) wide

THE PROCESS:

After preparing the art for this design, I use an acid bath to etch the artwork deep into the copper plates. The copper plates and sterling silver components are then soldered together using good, old-fashioned silversmithing techniques . The completed earrings were then hand patinated, then polished and finally, the copper was given a coat of sealant to preserve its gorgeous, bright copper glow.

These are made-to-order, so please allow 2-3 weeks for completion.

THE INSPIRATION:

House Centipedes are extremely beneficial, graceful and harmless hunters of the hearth. They prey on and help to control far worse home invaders (e.g. cockroaches and mosquitoes!) And despite those several hairs on the back of our necks that stand up whenever we spot them out of the corner of our eyes, really, we should welcome them with open arms and shower them with praises! Or at the very least, just leave them to their good work ❤️
