Sport weight yarn, size #3 needles and a great combination of cable stitches makes for a 17" pillow that just pops with solid dimensional texture and pattern on both sides. 3, 4, and 6 stitch cables comprise the bulk of the stitching , along with a 3-stitch plait/braid. Directions on how to knit these stitches are included under the Abbreviation and Stitch directions. All are easy and only require a cable needle. Blocking is a must to achieve a nicely squared pillow. Blocking wires are the only way to go pinning just can't get the same result. ( I have been known to use long, straight, size 4 or smaller knitting needles for blocking )
This pattern done with Cascade Sport 220 works up to a 17" pillow. If using a different yarn and/or needle size, I would advise waiting until you complete knitting and blocking to be sure of the size of pillow form to use.
The pattern is in both row by row written and charted instructions. Materials needed are 660 - 690 yds. of Sport weight yarn, size 3 straight knitting needles, a cable needle, pillow form and blocking wires. Both front and back are blocked, sewn together on 3 sides, form inserted and then the last side is stitched.
The gauge for this yarn is 25 stitches and 25 rows to 4" in stockinette on size 3 needles.
