Ceramics, among the earliest industrial pursuits of humankind, possesses inherent artistic qualities, evolving into an art form from its inception. The diverse tribes and civilizations that once inhabited the lands of present-day Bulgaria left an indelible cultural legacy. The region boasts a mosaic of ceramics from Thracians, Romans, Slavs, and Proto-Bulgarians across the ages, influenced by the proximity to the Mediterranean and its rich cultural tapestry.
At DankoHandmade, we reverently embrace these traditions, infusing them with a modern sensibility. Each of our product lines exudes a unique style and character, yet all resonate with the comforting warmth of the Bulgarian landscape.

LEATHERHARD:
As the meticulously crafted pieces undergo initial drying within a plastic cocoon for several days, they enter the leatherhard stage. Here, water loss through evaporation stiffens the clay, rendering it partially dry. Seizing this opportune moment, our artisans refine the pieces—carving, adding handles, or incorporating decorative elements. This phase allows for last-minute alterations to the shape before the clay solidifies beyond malleability.
