A FANTASTIC Choice for new spinners and for anyone wanting a super soft wool against their skin. The whitest of the ecru fleeces, Falkland is a wonderful (likely even organic) spinning and dyeing fiber. Micron 26, staple length 4-6 inches, 100-115 mm. This fiber feels considerably softer than the 26 micron would imply. One of the most environmentally friendly and humane fiber sources on the planet!

The base flock of the Falkland wool is Corriedale, Polworth and Dohne Merino. These breeds were developed for dual purpose, meat and wool production and are selectively bred for the ability to survive in the harsh climate of the Falkland Islands. The upside of the harsh climate is that insects and disease associated with them are not a problem. The wool is almost guaranteed to be chemical free. Since there are no known sheep diseases in the Falkland Islands, the sheep are never dipped and never go through mulesing.

This isolated archipelago, some 300 miles east of the Patagonian coastline in the Atlantic Ocean, just happens to be an ideal place to raise sheep. The result is an exceptional, sustainable wool – dazzling white and soft to the touch.
