L'ORNEMENT POLYCHROME / The Polychrome Ornament
Directed by the french illustrator Albert Racinet, Enhanced second serie, published in 1885. The portfolio gathers 120 chromolithographs, colored with gold and silver adds. Various and magnificent styles are represented : Ancient and Asian art, Middle-Ages, Renaissance, XVIIth, XVIIIth and XIXth centuries.

Fine detail, bright colors, in a large size : they are remarkable as decorative wall art.
MOTIFS
Wolrdwide ornamental motifs (more than 2000), about : Weaving and Printing, Ceramic art, Mosaics, Art of Stained-glass, Fitting, Inlay, Cutlery and Jewellery, Metal Marquetry, Painted or lacquered wooden, Paintings of manuscripts, Human figure, Cartouche designs.
A unified written notice accompanies each plate.
This universally known collection have a great historical and practical interest for students and teachers who learn Fine Arts, Decorative Arts, Interior Design, as well as for quality colored lithograph lovers.
ALBERT RACINET (1825 - 1893)
Illustratror, lithographer, painter and author. Trained by his father and at the Ecole du Dessin de Paris, he worked as an engraver and an artistic director at Firmin-Didot et Compagnie's Edition, from 1869 to 1888. His 2 major works are L'Ornement Polychrome and The Historical Costume.

CONDITION
Very good condition. The colors are as new, very sharp, the sketching very fine. It is both a well made lithograph and a gorgeous decorative subject.
On some plates of this great collection small slight traces are possible. Those rare defects are generally on the edge and don't exceed a few millimeters : easily hidden behind a passe-partout. (We have choosen not to recut the plates).
Pretty thick paper, originally lightly sepia.
The photo is watermarked, but the original is not. The reverse side is blank.
