A little information about Kasumi and Kasumi like pearls. It all started in Japan at Lake Kasumiga. The Japanese hybridized the two varieties of freshwater mussels that are used for freshwater pearl farming and began culturing them and came up with some truly beautiful and unique pearls. The production of these pearls was (still is) very limited and prices were (still are) quite high. The Chinese freshwater pearl farming industry caught on and began doing the same thing. Chinese Kasumi like pearls are often referred to as Edison pearls in homage to the enginuty of Thomas Edison because of the enginuty it took the Chinese to create their own hybrized in body nucleated pearl industry. Chinese Kasumi like pearls also go by names such as Ming pearls, ripple pearls, and wrinkle pearls, and the hybrid is also same mussel responsible for the popular flameball pearls.
