This stylish earrings and pendant gift set would make a fabulous gift for any star gazer and the 'gem' centre piece is a detail of a high res. photographic image of the Orion Nebula.
FREE inside - there is a beautiful small photographic greetings card featuring the original image that has information about the nebula on the reverse and is left blank on the inside for you to write your message or greeting.
The earrings and pendants have been made using some of the most iconic images from the NASA archives, and are set behind crystal clear glass cabochons which are fixed into a silver plated base. The dangle earrings are approx. 3cm long and have matching translucent glass beads for extra elegance. Alternatively the earrings can be small comfy studs or clips (12mm). The pendant measures 2cm. in diameter and both the medium curb chain (with a simple bolt ring fastener) and ear wires are sterling silver. The rounded glass cabochons have a slightly magnifying effect which enhances the overall appearance of the 'gems' and they are presented in a black gift box.
1,500 light-years away from Earth, the Orion Nebula is the brightest spot in the sword of the Orion, or "Hunter" constellation. The cosmic cloud is also our closest massive star-forming factory, and astronomers believe it contains more than 1,000 young stars.
This striking Image of the Orion Nebula is a composite photograph taken using the Hubble and Spitzer Space telescopes. At the centre of the cloud, where the image is brightest are four massive stars collectively called the "Trapezium". The swirls of green reveal hydrogen and sulphur gas that has been heated and ionized by intense ultraviolet radiation from the Trapezium's stars. The wisps of red and orange clouds are organic carbon rich molecules called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
Stellar winds from clusters of newly formed stars in the cloud have etched ridges and cavities in Orion, which can be seen in the Autumn and Winter night skies in the northern hemisphere.
