Vintage PDF sewing pattern to make a Hippopotamus Toy for babies or children. This hippo has rustic charm - he's sewn in easy care, durable hessian fabric (known as burlap in the U.S. & Canada) with felt detailing in a contrasting color. You could of course substitute a medium to heavy weight woven cotton fabric in a solid color or playful print instead if desired. The finished hippopotamus measures 3 feet long.
** Please Note: Pattern pieces are printed on a grid and require enlargement. They are not already full size. The original instructions from the vintage pattern on how to enlarge pattern pieces by hand are included in the PDF. There are also other options now available in our modern age for enlarging with a copier machine, computer, or a copy shop such as Staples or Office Max, a good description of which can be found here:

Materials needed to sew this pattern:
- 2 yards of 36 inch wide hessian fabric (burlap)
- Red felt, 12 inches by 24 inches
- Pattern calls for "wood wool" for stuffing (Google it if you don't know what it is) but you can substitute fiberfill / polyester stuffing, just be sure to stuff firmly so hippo keeps its shape with use
- Sewing thread
- Either scraps of felt, buttons, or embroidery thread to make eyes
