There is sometimes an erroneous view of psychism that equates it solely with the so-called psychic abilities of clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience, claircognizance and other similar phenomena. This misconception has been instrumental in causing a gently awakening faculty to shut down out of fear.

Sometimes when strange or unusual abilities suddenly occur for no apparent reason to the conscious mind, the person going through the experience either wishes it wasn’t there or wants to have more control over the situation. When psychic abilities first begin, they are often too unpredictable to be taken seriously.

People who don’t take notice of what has been revealed to them will often regret that they did not consider taking action. On the other hand, some who do take action may find that the information was inaccurate and either dismiss any further information or shut down the faculty altogether.

This action is simply due to a lack of any clear understanding of what being psychic means, and how psychic abilities are a natural part of being human. Any ability, whether it happens to be the ability to draw, dance, swim, paint, play a musical instrument and so on, needs training to bring out the best of the ability.

For instance, if you have an ability to play a musical instrument, you still need to practice your scales to hone the flexibility of your fingers to allow you to develop your talent. And so it is with psychic abilities; there is no straining involved, but a set of simple exercises will train any awakening faculty and produce consistent results.
