Why buy "recycled" yarn?
These are yarns that I have reclaimed from garments purchased at my local thrift store. Buying one of these yarns helps to support a charity whose mission is "education, training, and career services for people with disadvantages...as well as those with physical, mental and emotional disabilities." Buying reclaimed yarn has the added benefit of helping to reduce the burden on our landfills. The items I purchase are of the highest quality (both in terms of fiber content and with respect to the manufacturer - the "brand name") and have been worn very little, if ever (many still have the store tags attached). I avoid any garment that shows signs of wear (pilling, felting, stains, etc...) I carefully unravel the yarn, wash it in hot water with an organic lavender scented soap, rinse it and let it air dry before winding it into a skein and counting the yardage. The yarn is clean and fresh and ready for your crafting pleasure!
