Sooner or later rawhide wears out. We recommend using rawhide conditioner and an LED bulb. Rawhide lamp shades can last several years but it is "raw hide" which constantly expands and contracts with heat and humidity. When wet or humid, it loosens and when heated or dry it tightens.

Heat from high wattage bulbs, direct sunlight, placement near a heat duct, or not conditioning the hide frequently enough will cause the hide to dry out and split. For these reasons, there is no guarantee on rawhide shades. You will want to consider if this shade material is right for you before purchasing.
