Sashiko means literally "little stabs", which is a form of decorative embroidery from Japan and often used for decoration.

This design named Maru-bishamon, which is derived from the Buddhist guardian deity, Bishamonten. The pattern is taken from the deity's armor which has scales.
Bishamonten is shown as a warrior and protector against invaders and a deity of healing with the power to save emperors from life-threatening illnesses and to expel the demons of plague.
