Highlights

  • Made by FiberHuis
  • Supplies for making crafts
  • Materials: sustainably sourced maple, metal pegs

A beautifully made wooden weaving loom for weavers of any skill. A great hobby crafting loom or tapestry loom for beginner or experienced weavers.

This lap loom is the perfect size for making small projects while sitting in front of the TV, relaxing at the park or while traveling. The extra sturdy handmade frame and metal pegs will last you a long time. The water based varnish gives the frame loom a more finished look. Each beautifully made wooden weaving loom is handcrafted by me and members of my family from sustainably sourced maple.

Loom measures 10" x 13" (25cm x 33cm). Your finished weaving will be about 8.5" x 9" (20cm x 22cm). It ships in its own box for easy gift giving and storage. No other materials are included with this loom. Add a set of 3 tapestry needles for just $3.

If you would like a beginners kit, see the options I have available in the Weaving Looms section: https://www.etsy.com/shop/FiberHuis?section_id=11284946&ref=shopsection_leftnav_1

F.A.Q's

1. What projects can I make with the loom?

Projects range from wall art to items with a more functional everyday use. Some ideas to get you started are:
*Coaster
*Bookmark
*Bracelet
*Wall Art or Tapestry
*Coin Purse
*Small Pillow
*Larger items can be made by sewing pieces together such as placemats, scarves and larger pillows.

Find inspiration for your next project by joining my email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/bYbJ89 Each month I feature a different fiber artist to gain new ideas and insight into the world of fiber art.

Post your finished weaving projects on Instagram with the tag #fiberhuisweavings or in the Sew Nina Flickr Group: http://www.flickr.com/groups/weavingprojects/

2. How large of a design can I make?

The actual size of a finished piece of fabric will be about 8.5" x 9" (20cm x 22cm).

3. Can I make a blanket with this loom?

Weaving on a hand loom is a slow process which is why many weavers use the floor looms for projects as large as a blanket. You may feel discouraged if you find making a blanket very time consuming. If you are dedicated and have the patience, then by all means, you can certainly sew the pieces together to make any size project.

4. How do I join two pieces together?

When you have finished 2 pieces of fabric and tied it off the loom you can join them together with a whip stitch. Put the 2 pieces right sides (front sides) together. Using your weaving needle and a piece of matching yarn sew along the seam, from top to bottom, top to bottom, until you’ve sewn along the entire seam. You can also Google ‘whip stitch’ to find videos that show how to do this.

5. What types of yarn do you recommend for weaving?

When winding the warp it’s best to choose yarns without a lot of stretch. Cotton or linen yarns are usually stiff enough. This will prevent the project from warping when taken off of the loom. While doing the actual weaving the materials you choose are limitless. You can use any type of yarn out there or strips of fabric. You can also try unconventional materials such as raffia. I even saw a weaving once done with twigs for an art piece. I also sell all types of yarn and ribbons, including wool warp. https://www.etsy.com/shop/fiberhuis

6. Why are the nails on this loom straight and on your oak loom staggered?

Maple is a very hard wood and holds the nails in a straight line just fine. The oak loom is made of mahogany, which is a little softer and would split the wood when I hammer them in a row. Staggering prevents the wood from splitting. Both looms are strong and durable and function exactly the same.

7. Do you offer larger looms?

The only loom size I sell is 10" x 13" (25cm x 33cm). Larger looms are available by custom order and cost $1 per inch plus shipping. For instance, if you requested a 12" x 16" (30cm x 40cm) loom the cost would be $56 USD plus shipping. Please contact me if you would like a custom made loom.

8. What if I have questions about weaving?

I am always willing to answer any questions you have about weaving anytime you need help. Feel free to convo or email me with any questions or if you just want to talk about weaving. :)
