Custom and personalized orders

Yes, I do custom orders! Click on the Custom Order Request link on the home page or in any one of my listings. I'll let you know if I have those stones. I have LOTS of inventory but not all of it is listed so it's very possible that I may already have what you are looking for. With any custom request, please provide exact dimensions (length, width, thickness and shape). Pictures are encouraged and welcomed as it makes the custom cutting process much easier.

Are you cabochons made in the USA?

Yes, all my cabochons are american-made. A majority of my stones are mined in the American West--Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, etc. I cut all my stones in my home shop here in sunny Florida.

My stones are very sturdy. They are all backed with a hard black epoxy that increases their strength and stability, but they will crack and break if dropped on a hard surface such as tile or concrete. They are very tough when it comes to setting and bezeling them but don't play catch with them ;)

Can I request a special shape?

Yes, I can cut different shapes than those I have listed. Please click the Custom Order Rquest link on the home page or in any listing. Not everything is cuttable although I can generally make it work. I will let you know if I can do it and then give you an estimate on the project. For totally new shapes, there WILL be an additional "lapidary design fee" of $50 on the order. Sketches, drawings or pictures are encouraged. But exact dimensions are a must.

Do you do silversmithing?

No, I do not do silversmithing. I do no bezel, inlay or solder silver or gold. But I do know many fine silversmiths who would like to help you with your silversmithing needs. Message me and will provide you with some names.

Do you have more of this cabochon or in a different size?

Yes! I have a huge inventory from years of stone cutting. Not all of it is posted in my store. Often I have more than one of the cabochons you are looking for. Since we are dealing with natural rock they will not be exactly identical in color or matrix, but I can generally get pretty close. I do however have the same shapes in many different, stones colors and sizes. If I don't have more in stock, I can generally cut what you want but for new cuttings I require a $60 minimum order. Just click the Custom Order Request link, explain what you want with dimensions, stone type and look and I will give you a price quote.

Can I get an individual stone made into earrings, a necklace or pendant?

Yes! I can make any of my stones into a pair of earrings or pendant. All of my shaped cabochons have this as an option for an extra fee. If you wish to have a standard cabochon (square, oval, triangle, circle, etc.) made into jewelry, you would have to click the Custom Order Request button in the listing. I would then be able to give you a price quote. Pair of earrings: Additional $25 (2 stones drilled with sterling silver eyehook, bail and french ear wires) Pendant: Additional $15 (1 stone drilled with sterling silver eyehook and bail)

These angels cabochons are of my own design. They are were handcut by me in my lapidary shop from Variscite. Variscite is a mineral known for it's wonderful shades of green and is mined mainly from Utah. It is sometimes mistaken for turquoise but is in fact an entirely different mineral. Variscite is named after the German district of Variscia, where this mineral was first found.

All my cabochons are backed in hard, black epoxy for stability and strength.

ROCK FACTS:

VARISCITE

Variscite is an opaque gemstone with interesting color splotches and veins. It is usually a light or minty-green with whitish patterns. Almost all Variscite gemstones originate from Utah, and for this reason it may also be called Utahlite. In fact, the most important deposit of gemstone-grade Variscite is actually called the Utahlite Deposit.
