What size paper do I use? A4 or letter. Do I need to scale this template? As an adult no, for a small child, yes. Keep scale between 90-85%. in most cases 90% scale will work for kids.

The low poly nature of these designs, and card stock paper offer a fair amount of strength, but they can be even stronger, this section will start with the easiest way and move to increasingly difficult steps. 1. Aerosol plastic spray. The biggest killer of paper masks is moisture, applying many light coats of an aerosol plastic will add a bit of rigidity but also help protect against moisture being absorbed by the paper. What do the numbers mean?

The numbers are there to tell you which part of the mask connects to another part of the mask. Each number has a matching pair (ie, 27 , and 27). Matching numbers may be on different parts on the same page, or on different pages entirely. Connect these numbers with a butt connection.

Yay! You just found a matching pair of numbers, now what? We join the numbers together by placing or butting the thin side of the paper together and overlaying a piece of tape so it rest evenly to cover the joint. Cut the tape to size, then I will lay ½ of the tape on side of the joint, making sure the tape is secure, then use that tape to pull any small gaps closed, then securing the tape to the other side of the tape to the other side of the join. In some cases I will use multiple pieces of tape.

Each template has 3 different line types ________, _ _ _ _ _, __ _ __ _ __ _, The solid line is a cut line, you cut along that line. The other lines are mountain folds and valley folds. The line pattern will be indicated on the template, but the valley folds are easier, so the templates are made to have more of them. Valley folds are a fold where the paper is folded towards yourself, creating a crease that dips down like a valley. Mountain folds make creases that folds the paper upwards, forming a peak or ridge the resembles a mountain.

1. Cut the first page into 1.5” or 5cm strips length wise. 2. With a large overlap, secured tape or glue, make a continues length of paper that if the circumference of your head, plus extra length for an addition overlap section. 3. Test fit the length of paper to you head, so it rest securely and above your eyebrows. 4. Tape the length of paper closed, ensuring it has the same fit. Your band is complete.

5. Make 3 to 6 anchoring points from the band to the mask. ( I start at 3 and use more if needed). First, use a strip a paper that you previously cut, fold the end over, at minimum 1.5” or 5 cm, and connect this to the inside of the mask, ensuring it does not impede your vision. Second, repeat the previous step until you get your desired number of anchors and evenly space them in the mask. Third, connect the anchors in the mask to the headband. Test fit everything to make sure that vision and placement is ideal, then secure with tape, or glue. 6. Add more anchors if you feel like you need them.

Majora's Mask and Skull Kid Hat

After many failed attempts and sleepless nights of folding paper, designing, taping and folding more paper we have come to this, a finished mask.

What you are buying is PDF file of the instructions/template for the MAJORA'S MASK and SKULL KID HAT. You will still require a printer, tape, paper, metal wire wire snips, fabric elastic, scissors and a bit of spare time.

These mask are surprising strong and look amazing where ever you are, you could be dancing at a festival or walking with your kid side by side on Halloween. And if for some reason it breaks, simply reprint and rebuild.

Build notes

This build takes 2-5 hours to complete the Majora's Mask and another 3-6 for the Skull Kid Hat . This is a moderate build-Hard build, it would be easy except horns can be tricky and the Metal Sub frame in the hat.

I make all of my mask out of paper with a minimum weight of 65 pounds, the templates are in LETTER paper and A4.

Construction is simple, it’s cut, fold, match numbers, tape repeat. You can finish the mask however you like as they come blank, think of it as your canvas.

Once you no longer need the mask you can recycle it, or like me, push a few nails in the wall and hang it up.

This was awesome. My 7th grader was super excited to make his own mask for Halloween. We covered it with tissue paper mixed with wood glue and filled the inside with spray foam to strengthen it.

I used 65lb cardstock for this project. It went together really smoothly. There was one place where the numbers didn’t match but it was easy to figure out how the pieces were meant to go together despite this. We haven’t painted yet but my son is very pleased so far. It took about 3-4 hours to cut out, fold, and tape together. You’ll definitely need a ruler to help with folding if you use the thicker paper. Happy crafting!!
