Venus - Keeper of the Ancient Pulse

Long before temples and written words, before inked scrolls or carved tablets, there stood a figure in the soil of what we now call Willendorf—rounded, grounded, and powerful. Sculpted some 30,000 years ago, she carried no name, but she carried meaning. Revered not for ornament, but for essence. A symbol of fertility, continuity, and the sacred rhythm of life.

This piece draws inspiration from that ancient Venus, an emblem of abundance, a guardian of the generative force, a prayer formed by hand.

Across early cultures, forms like hers were created to honour the feminine principle—not just in the act of birth, but in the cycle of sowing and reaping, in the weaving of families, in the nourishing of life. She was right at the centre offering strength, stability, and sustenance.

This modern interpretation is handcrafted in my studio as a small yet mighty invocation of those same truths. It stands as a reminder of what many ancient cultures understood: that nurturing, provision, and the continuity of life are not only sacred, but essential. To nourish others, to safeguard new life—this was once the highest calling. Abundance was never taken for granted; it was prayed for, celebrated, and fiercely protected.

Whether placed on an altar, nestled among herbs, or offered to a mother or a midwife, may she stir something ancient and knowing within you too.
