Do I need a loom or special equipment in order to make a rya rug from Byrdcall Studio?

No, you don't need anything more technical than a good pair of scissors. The kit comes with the design, a card with all of the color combinations prepared for you, instructions in English, needles, and some kits come with a ruler tool for wrapping the rya loop around to make the loops consistent. If you happen to have a loom, you could make your own rya with rya yarns that I sell, but 99% of my customers do not weave.

Do you give a price break for people who have already made several rya rugs?

Yes, if you have plenty of #13 tapestry needles and the ruler stick that is part of all the Rauma kits from Norway, send me a conversation telling me so before you order a kit, and I will list the kit you want with a $10 deduction and not send you more needles nor the ruler.

YOU can make this amazing rya! The colors in this kit are spectacular! Yes, you can make an off-loom rya rug. This kit has everything you need to make this very high quality product from Norway. I make it easy for you by actually starting the first row for you and adding detailed instructions which I translated from Norwegian to English. I also am available to give advice through the process if you need it.

This kit uses two strands of the heavier rya yarn and an additional thinner strand of prydvevgarn (yarn made from the same heritage sheep) but thinner for variety in texture. See photo #3 for close-up of colors.

Needles
Ruler (kavel) for keep loop length consistent
Hemmed woven backing of wool and linen
Yarn required plus a little extra for wiggle room

Since I released the video, it has been seen by over 650,000 viewers. I have committed my life now to bringing back off-loom rya rug making. I have hundreds of designs and will slowly be releasing kits here as I get them ready. A kit is a good place to start.

The ruler stick (kavel) is included in the kit to help you keep the pile all the same length so you will have plenty of yarn. But should you happen to make longer than standard loops, and if you run out of a color, I do carry all the Rauma rya yarn colors in stock and would be happy to sell you small amounts to finish your project. I am willing to break skeins in 3/4, 1/2, or 1/4 skein units-- or individual strands if you only need a few.
