Made with gold wire and beads that resemble the eight planets, this solar system is mounted on a clock mechanism within a wooden block. The mechanism is accessed from the bottom and takes one AA battery. As it sits, it does make a slight ticking sound with the battery in place - or you can remove the battery and let it sit stationary. The bottom is covered in white felt to prevent scratching of surfaces. Color of beads may differ from images based on availability.

How the bodies sit:
Sun - Center
Second Hand - Mercury (visibly moves)
Minute Hand - Venus, Earth (rotates completely over an hour)
Hour Hand - Mars, Jupiter, Saturn (rotates completely over 12 hours)
Stationary - Uranus, Neptune

It may look like only Mercury rotates, but Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn also rotate - only slower. You'll notice a change in their positions throughout the day. They're built on a clock mechanism, so that's why it appears so slow. As described on the product page:

Seller was amazing and notified me when the orrery was back in stock. A bit smaller than I expected (check measurements), but absolutely exquisite nonetheless.
