I love these new handmade ceramic spoons! The idea came to me as we often have family or friends come over to visit, and we offer a hot beverage (coffee or tea) usually and I wanted to have something special available for them to use when they are adding their cream and sugar.
Sure regular tea spoons work well, as do disposable stirrers. However with kids in the house, tea spoons get used up quickly for cereal and yogurt, and it bothers me to have disposable (to me) stirrers because they do end up somewhere.
These handmade ceramic spoons are individually handmade by me. Please expect your spoon to be slightly different than the images above as I have a few press molds (also handmade) and stamps that are used.
The finished size of these spoons is about 4-1/4" long. The width of the bowl is between 1-1/4" to 1-1/2", the handle end about 3/4". The thickness is around 1/8" thick. Hand Wash Only.
HOW I MAKE THESE:
I have made my own press molds that I press the clay into and remove the excess. I then clean the edges and let them set up a bit before pressing in my hand carved stamped images. I then remove the spoons from the press mold, clean them again to make sure the edges are very smooth, then they set up and dry for the first bisque kiln firing.
After they are bisque fired, I am able to hand paint each one with a ceramic glaze over the entire piece. They are then suspended in my kiln and glaze fired to around 2232 degrees F.
ABOUT THIS LISTING:
This listing is for one of the small ceramic spoons similar to what you see in the first three photos. The fourth photo is your glaze color choice (they are glazed both front and back). The spoons measure just over 4 inches long and have about a 1 inch bowl.
The designs in the second photo is from Left to Right:
Spiral Flower
Spiral Paw
Bowl Spiral
Neck Spiral
The last photo shows me using this size spoon to stir in the cream into my coffee. Stir. Rinse. Set on the counter (for some reason this spoon sitting rinsed on the counter does not bother me like seeing a plain teaspoon on the counter).
CARE OF SPOONS:
Please hand wash these ceramic spoons. The surface will not scratch with a scrubbable sponge if you need to use one. They can be soaked in very hot water too if you have something stuck on it.
Do not bang them around with your other more dense flatware. They have little holes on the end, and can be displayed when not in use by hanging them on a small nail on your wall (or whatever arrangement you have).
Please keep out of reach of children or grown people that have a habit of whacking, tapping, or smashing things as glaze is glass on top of a ceramic surface underneath. These are pretty durable, but not indestructible.
