This is a print of the patent drawing for the first US patent ever issued and is signed by George Washington. This first patent was granted to Samuel Hopkins in 1790 for an improvement "in the making of Pot ash and Pearl ash by a new Apparatus and Process". This is also one of the X-Patents which were some of the first patents ever issued and is numbered as X000001. Because of a fire in 1836, all of the first patents issued were destroyed and had to be recreated from the inventor's drawings. The Patent Office placed an X with the patent number to indicate the patent was one of these recreated patents. The original patent has been cleaned up and enhanced to create an attractive display piece for your home or office. This is a great way to put your interests and hobbies on display.
