This Lovely dog japanese fabric is a Tenugui is Lit. Hand towel in Japanese – has been used in Japan for a long time. During the Heian period (794-1192 AD) it was used as accessories in rituals at Shinto shrines.

FABRIC DESCRIPTION

Traditional towel Tenugui using nassen method hand-dye.

The tenugui started to grow in popularity from the Kamakura period (1192-1333 AD) and during the Edo period (1592-1868 AD), as cotton cultivation started in several parts of Japan , tenugui became an everyday necessary item. At this time the tenugui was regarded as a versatile daily product, but slowly it began to be regarded as an artistic item and contest were held to select winning designs.

These contests were called “Tenugui Awase” and contributed to the development of new dyeing techniques.

CARE
Machine washing not recommended due to shrinkage.
Hand-wash recommended. Dry in shade. Don't bleach. Wash with like colors. Don't leave in water. Colors may fall.
Both edges of tenugui are stitched.
