I make prints that are reproductions of lithographs done in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s portraying “bird’s eye views” of American cities and towns. I have my prints made by a commercial printing service using semi-gloss photo paper to produce extraordinary detail and clarity. Print only — does not include frame.

ABOUT BIRD’S EYE MAPS
The panoramic map, known also as a bird's eye view, was a popular cartographic form used to depict cities and towns during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Although not generally drawn to scale, they show street patterns, individual buildings, and major landscape features in perspective. Preparation and sale of these nineteenth century maps were motivated by civic pride and the desire of the city fathers to encourage commercial growth. Many views were prepared for and endorsed by chambers of commerce and other civic organizations and were used as advertisements of a city's commercial and residential potential. Real estate agents and chambers of commerce used the maps to promote sales to prospective buyers of homes and business properties.

ABOUT MY MAPS
This print is a reproduction of a period map. It has been sized to fit a 24"x36" frame and restored as close as possible to its original appearance. Colors have been corrected to overcome fading and yellowing and — where possible — any stains, spotting, fold lines, crease marks, handwriting or catalog stamps that were not part of the original print have been removed to restore the original appearance of the map.

Although copies of bird’s eye maps in their deteriorated state with all their blemishes can be purchased from different sources and in many different sizes, my maps are restored as close as possible to their original appearance and they fit a standard frame size — avoiding the cost of custom framing or matting.
