ALWAYS check item security before and during wear and take the appropriate precautions to safeguard your items. If chain length is a concern, we are happy to shorten your chain at the time of purchase! To increase item security in latched pearl cages, a small amount of clear nail polish can help. If the latch closure were to become loose (may be more likely to occur if a cage is opened and closed repeatedly). A pair of jewelry pliers can be used to tighten the closure. Baubles & Barnacles is not responsible for broken glass/acrylic terrariums, damaged pearl cages, lost pearls, etc. and is unable to offer replacements or refunds for negligence. The wearer assumes all responsibility for the security of their belongings. How do I close my terrarium?

BE CAREFUL TO NEVER PRESS ON THE ACRYLIC WHEN CLOSING YOUR TERRARIUM!! Seriously, don't do it :) You'll be sad, and it will need to be repaired. Which are happy to do (see: Help! I dislodged the acrylic of my terrarium....) but it will take longer for you to enjoy your beautiful new necklace! So with that in mind, please follow these instructions: The two sides of the terrarium are made to fit snugly together; one side is more of a "lid" that fits over the edges of the other side. To close, hold the side of the terrarium with the pin in the palm of your hand, loop the other side with the hole over the pin, ensure the pin is lined up and all the way inserted, then gently press the metal sides like a clam shell to close - bottom to top.

How do I open my terrarium?

Our terrariums are purposefully snug to keep your pearls secure. There's a bit of a wiggling technique to opening them, and we suggest using something like a really thin butter knife, metal nail file or even a razorblade (but be super careful!!). Just slide it in between the top ring where the two halves come together and twist gently back and forth a couple of times to loosen. Twist right to left, not up and down. The top will open first because the bottom is held in place with a pin (think clam shell). PLEASE do not use tools like pliers to pull at or force apart your terrarium!! You could bend or possibly break it - it is jewelry, after all :) Just use a little patience and don't be afraid to message us for help!

Help! I dislodged the acrylic of my terrarium....

If you would like us to fix the acrylic on your terrarium, we will be happy to do so for FREE! Simply message us that you intend to ship your terrarium back for repair. All shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer. We recommend a box to protect against damage during shipment & are not responsible items received damaged. Once received, we'll create a custom listing for the shipping & Etsy listing costs ($5.20) for us to return your terrarium to you. Baubles & Barnacles cannot guarantee the acrylic against being dislodged after repair. Do not press the acrylic :) Please note: we will not replace the acrylic in your terrarium should it break completely. While stronger than glass, acrylic is delicate and should be treated with care.

What size pearls fit - and how many?

Unless noted otherwise on the listing, most cages and terrariums will hold a pearl up to 10mm in size comfortably. The cages vary in size, but are listed with their exterior measurement in millimeters. This will help for reference to the size of your pearl(s). Also, many listings are shown with pearls inside the cages that are between 6 - 7.5mm. Due to the variation in shapes, terrariums are shown next to a quarter for size reference, and are are also shown with pearls between 6 - 7.5mm. Feel free to message us with questions and we can help you estimate if your pearls will fit ☺

What about refunds & exchanges?

Check our shop policies! But please note that customer preferences are NOT considered damage and are NOT covered under our exchange policy (e.g. darker antiquing than preferred, minor/normal scratches in acrylic surface, weight or size of the item, color tone of the finish, tarnishing from wear/care, smoothness of acrylic, etc.). All items are shown with 7-10 pictures and include extremely detailed descriptions. We are happy to answer any questions you may have prior to purchase via Etsy Conversations and typically reply within minutes. The pearl cage is easy to open but also closes tightly, so you can add pearls in the future! Always check item security before wear. You can easily adjust the latch with a pair of jewelry (small) pliers and a soft cloth to prevent scratching of the finish, if a tighter closure is needed due to repeated opening/closing of the pearl cage. If you're not sure how to do that, shoot us a message and we can help!

Exquisite! The locket comes slightly tarnished in some spots which I love and the clasp mechanism has been pretty robust so far. It also comes in an adorable wooden box! If you want to use this to store crystals like I do, I've found the biggest stone I've been able to fit is some petrified wood measuring 0.67x0.4 in (1.7x1 cm - shown in picture). Also, the chain it comes in is quite long, so consider what length of chain you'd prefer.
