Thinking of tying one on? The grim face of Matt Talbot will remind you not to over do it.
Matt Talbot was an Irish lad from a very large family of colossal drunks. Matt became such an amazing booze hound that he would do anything for a drink, including selling his shoes. Isn't that a line from a song? "I sold my shoes, for a bottle of booze." Maybe Matt wrote that song.
One day, broke and desperate for a snort, Matt hung around outside the bar hoping someone would invite him in and buy him a drink. Everyone ignored him.
Depressed he went cold turkey and never looked back. Eventually he also quit smoking. He said that was harder than kicking liquor.
Matt isn't a saint yet. In fact he's not even "Blessed", the second step toward sainthood. He is the 'Venerable' Matt Talbot, worthy of our veneration, the first stop on the road to everlasting glory. No miracles have yet been attributed to him.
But he already has a patronage linked to him. Obviously. Alcoholics, addicts, smokers, and hair loss.
He died at age 69 while walking down the street.
Hand painted Matt Talbot on bright orange blue ball chain measures 24".
