Item details

Vintage from the 19th century

So this is what is conclusively known about this photo. A family portrait with one member of the family
as the central focal point with an unusual pose which does not depict her full face. I am not a doctor,
but from a photographic standpoint, there is some significance to this pose. Every other person has their gaze directed forward. The women that flank her at each side have looks of genuine concern or discontent. There is a possibility that this might be a pre-mortem photo as well. It's difficult to see any distinct signs of life in this woman due to the pose. I tried to include a scan that featured her as well as I could. Ultimately, the decision is yours. I'm about 85% convinced there is something seriously wrong here. I always reserve a full 15% for general Victorian weirdness.
