This Batik painting was designed, waxed and dyed in our studio using a contemporary direct application batik technique.
This batik process is the most innovative and dynamic currently practiced. While the immersion process is the traditional and has been practiced for centuries, with improved chemistry in dye production has come the possibilities of painting concentrated dyes mixed with chemical water resulting in more creative flexibility and dynamism. Following the application of the dyes on the waxed fabric is a heat steaming process using a cylindrical chamber steamer, which chemically bonds the fabric with the dyes creating the required fastness and permanence. Following the heat steaming process is the removal of the wax using hot soapy water.
Since each item is hand-dyed, each is unique, and there may be some variation in the color and design. Items online are immediately available and there’s only one of each. Variations of these or other customized versions can be ordered.
