This Christmas elf head is a work of unique Christmas decor. Wearing a red hat trimmed with cotton batting, Santa's helper would love to watch over your home during the holidays. Made from a real gourd, the Christmas elf head has pointed ears, and an amused facial expression. A cute shelf ornament, for sure!

The first time I saw a gourd shaped like this, I didn't know what to do with it; yet it's a normal shape for a gourd. I had to think about the shape and finally realized that the pointed top would make a good witch hat or elf hat. Well, it was past Halloween and heading for Christmas, so I made the elf. The face is stylized, with large round cheeks, a slender nose, and twinkling eyes. His hat is painted red, with cotton batting on the rim. His pointed ears were shaped from craft balsam wood, painted, and glued on. This gourd is too large to hang on a tree; so I make sure it will sit nicely, either by finding a flat-bottomed gourd, or by making a decorative stand for him to sit on.

Please keep in mind that every one of my items is made by hand, by me. I don't use templates, and I don't trace images. Also, every gourd is unique in shape. The photos shown with the listing are examples of what you will receive. I try to make them as "same" as I can; but there are no machines in my process. Your purchase will truly be one-of-a-kind!

About 7-8 inches tall.

Painted with acrylic craft paint and sealed with Krylon polyurethane.

Ears were made from craft wood.

Hat is rimmed with cotton batting.

As always, hand crafted by me, personally.

Why don’t you offer free shipping? — It’s true that I don’t offer free shipping on many of my items. We all know that “free” shipping isn’t really free. The maker simply raises the original price to include shipping costs. Many Etsy items will slide into a padded envelope or a “one price” box; and they can go anywhere within the US with no extra cost. My items, though, require a box larger than USPS offers, so that option isn’t available for my shop. And shipping 100 miles is a much different cost than shipping 2500 miles. I don’t want the customers who live close to have to bear the extra cost that would be built into a free shipping. I think it’s more fair to my customers to simply pay for shipping. I’m using the best and lowest option.

Why is my item not the size you estimated? — Every Gourd is different in size, being created by a creative God, not a plastic mold. In trying to find a gourd the right shape and thickness, I will fudge on the size just a bit, if necessary. I don’t have my own gourd farm. Nor do I have a large storage space for gourds waiting to become art. I try to keep a variety of gourds; but in the end, I must use what I have, if it’s close the the right size and shape. That’s the nature of natural materials.
