Highlights

When I hear the phrase "statement ring," I occasionally wonder what the statement in question might be - when it comes to this gorgeous piece, the answer is clearly a variation on Oscar Wilde's famous statement that too much is never enough!

I've had this marvelous natural emerald cabochon in my collection for over twenty years, and I was overjoyed when I came across a vintage Art Deco era setting that had clearly been made for it. Crafted from 14k white gold and fully hallmarked, the setting is currently a size 5.75 and could easily be sized within reason. The emerald has been certified by American Gemological Laboratory, the leader of the field as regards colored stones: it is natural, with evidence of the traditional oiling. This is, as the cert says, very common when it comes to emeralds, and does not affect stability or diminish value, unlike more invasive methods.

The emerald weighs 13.47 carats, and measures 16.8mm x 13mm by 8.35mm. It is set high (please see pictures), giving it even more presence on the hand, and the bezel keeps it well-protected. Clarity-wise, this stone has an excellent distribution of jardin, the fine inclusions characteristic to emeralds and metaphorically described as being equivalent to gazing into a beautiful garden. The color is a deep translucent green with an amazing luster to it; you'll sometimes see this cut described as being reminiscent of a gumdrop, and in this stone's case it's also applicable to its delicious glowiness! The stone has a remarkable vividness in the sun: I've included a few shots of it alongside a heavily fluorescent spinel to give you a sense of how it comes alive in the sun. To the naked eye the effect is not as pronounced as it is to the camera: it cannot be mistaken for kryptonite in person, but rather has a very pleasing eye-catching richness. I'm happy to provide video to interested parties.

This is one of those stones that's considerably better in person than it is in photographs ... and it photographs quite nicely, to my eye! As always, if you have any questions or desire additional pictures, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
