The Guardian - a story piece inspired by myth and folk art, made from recycled cloth, in free style embroidery, applique and hand stitching.

Often embroidered cloths such as this were (and still are) used in many cultures to commemorate someone's life, an event etc. or to just to tell a story, to suggest and expand upon a metaphor that is intriguing and for contemplation.
Birds act as guardian spirits, rising from their little bird houses.
A winged being directs the moon as it rides over the landscape.
A little surreal textile art that is eye catching and textural to the touch.

All of my embroidery pieces are made by hand and on an ordinary domestic sewing machine, usually in the free style embroidery technique where the machine needle is used like a drawing tool.
All the stitching on the border is by hand and many hours of hand and machine stitching went into this original piece of textile art.

As with my other textile pieces, this piece is made of printed and hand dyed cottons.
Two brass hanging rings may be attached so you may hang this art textile as it is or it looks great under glass in a frame or mounted without glass in a frame.
