Large Antique Steamer Trunk Flat Top, Restored Vintage Storage Chest, Industrial Coffee Table Trunk, Ornate Hardware Chest

This large antique steamer trunk features a desirable flat top design, making it ideal as a coffee table trunk, storage chest, or statement piece. Dating to the early 1900s and fully restored, this trunk combines authentic industrial character with practical functionality for modern use.
The exterior showcases ornate original hardware and a deep brown metallic finish with subtle iridescence, giving the piece depth without overpowering its antique character. Solid oak slats have been refinished in a rich walnut tone and sealed for durability, while new custom black leather handles complete the restoration.
This trunk retains its original character, including visible wear consistent with age. The latch is no longer functional, but remains visually intact. Inside, the trunk has been stripped and sanded, offering a clean, ready-to-use interior with the original tray included.

Large, flat-top trunks from this era—especially with this level of hardware detail—are becoming harder to find in restored condition.

This antique Chest is one of the largest made, and extremely ornate! This era of steamer trunks didn’t have many flat tops, especially this ornate, or in this size group. This old trunk has been refinished in a beautiful deep brown metallic. It’s a very subtle metallic, and I’d personally call it an iridescent.
Oak slats, on this vintage trunk are done in walnut stain and topped with polyurethane. The trunk slats are a little beat up, and some are a bit grainy, but it doesn’t detract from the looks of it, in my opinion.
New custom black leather handles, this old trunk’s latch is missing the loop, on the trunks right, and the actual mechanism that holds the loop, had to be put back on with screws. because it was broke. it’s not super noticeable, but it isn’t functional.

Interior of this antique travel trunk has been stripped, sanded and is ready for your finishing touches, though it is useable, just the way it is. This antique chest also has its original interior tray, which has also been stripped and sanded.
These old trunks are great to decoupage photo copies of old family photos, kids art, recipes, old love letters, sheet music, newspapers etc. You can also line it with contact paper or self adhesive wall paper, so many possibilities!
