Product Story
The star of these earrings are the handwoven sabutan material. Sabutan refers to a natural course fiber derived from the Pandanus plant (thatch screwpine), a species commonly found in the Philippines. It's used to weave various traditional items like hats, mats, bags, and other novelty products. The Northern Philippines province of Aurora is particularly known for its sabutan production, as well as its rich tradition of weaving passed down through generations. Sabutan weaving is a traditional craft that involves preparing the sabutan fiber, dyeing it, and then weaving it into intricate patterns.

Our Story
"Iba" (pronounced "ee-buh") is a Filipino word that means "different". At the start of 2021, we made it our goal to create our little space on the internet where unique gift ideas could be found. We said to ourselves, "This would be a space for inspired home decor and style accessories that could make that cute outfit or complete that tropical home vibe". Where would we source these unique items? The answer came almost immediately. We would search for handcrafted items produced by artisan communities and makers in the Philippines.
