This is a camphorwood chest from 1920. In great shape for its age. It has great details of ships and of the ocean waves. A wonderful piece of history. I obtained it from Wilmington NC several years ago. Its in wonderful shape considering its age. It measures 28 inches long , 14 inches wide and 13 inches tall.
A camphorwood chest is a type of chest or box made from camphor wood, a fragrant wood known for its natural insect repellent qualities. These chests were popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, primarily used for storing and transporting items like tea, porcelain, and silks from China to Europe. Their natural fragrance helped protect these goods from moths and other pests.
