Dioramas are my favorite pieces to create, and this one begins as an original watercolor painting inspired by Mt. Rainier at dusk in the Pacific Northwest. The painting is transformed into a layered, three-dimensional paper art diorama, carefully assembled and displayed in a shadow box to create a unique, miniature landscape scene.

A Gift with a Story:
I began creating paper dioramas when I wanted to take my paintings beyond the flat page. Inspired by memories of building dioramas in elementary school, I started cutting, layering, and reassembling my artwork by hand. That curiosity led to my first shadow box diorama and continues to shape how I create today.

My process has evolved over time. What once involved only an X-Acto knife and hours of hand-cutting intricate trees, ferry boats, and landscapes has grown into a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern tools. I now use a computerized cutting machine for precision, while every layer is still assembled by hand and separated with foam to create depth and dimension.

This diorama is built one piece at a time, with 5 layers representing Mt. Rainier, the Cascade mountain range, and snow-capped evergreen trees. No two dioramas are ever exactly the same, and I enjoy adding small, thoughtful details that make each piece feel personal and one of a kind.

Designed in a small, portable format, this layered paper diorama is easy to display on a shelf, desk, office space, cubicle, nature nurseries, or gallery wall.
