The Sikorsky HH-53 Super Jolly Green Giant is a heavy-lift helicopter developed by Sikorsky Aircraft for the United States Air Force, playing a critical role in combat search and rescue (CSAR) missions during the Vietnam War and beyond. Derived from the CH-53 Sea Stallion originally designed for the U.S. Navy, the HH-53 was specially modified for long-range rescue operations, giving it a legendary reputation for bravery and endurance under fire.

Introduced in the late 1960s, the HH-53C variant was equipped with powerful twin General Electric T64-GE-3 turboshaft engines and featured advanced avionics for all-weather operations. To extend its operational range, the HH-53 was fitted with in-flight refueling capability via a nose-mounted probe, a feature that allowed it to conduct deep-penetration rescue missions far into enemy territory. The helicopter could also carry a defensive armament of three 7.62 mm miniguns, enhancing its survivability in hostile environments.

Nicknamed the "Super Jolly Green Giant" for its size and olive-drab camouflage, the HH-53C and later Pave Low variants became iconic symbols of American airpower and dedication to recovering downed aircrews.
