Seller's description

DIGITAL PRODUCT ONLY: Save 25%! This digital bundle includes two beautifully detailed collections of old Scottish folklore books, scanned and lightly restored from their original early editions:

Book 1:

"Wonder Tales from Scottish Myth & Legend" by Donald A. Mackenzie is a collection of traditional Scottish folklore, with stories of:

- Myths about nature and deities: these stories explain natural phenomena and feature figures like Beira, Queen of Winter, who controls seasons and landscapes, and Angus and Bride, representing spring and summer.
- Heroic quests and magical encounters: tales of brave individuals facing challenges, such as Finlay battling multi-headed giants to break spells, or adventures in magical realms like the "Land-Under-Waves" and the "Kingdom of Seals."
- Folk tales with supernatural beings: narratives involving various Scottish supernatural entities, including helpful fairies (like the "wee red man"), mischievous water spirits such as the "Blue Men," and protective or foreboding creatures like the Banshee.

Book 2:

"Scottish Fairy and Folk Tales" by Sir George Douglas, is a comprehensive collection featuring traditional folklore tales about:

- Nursery stories and animal fables: simple stories - often for younger audiences - such as "The Story of the White Pet" , "The Milk-White Doo" and numerous stories featuring animal characters like "The Fox Outwitted" and "How the Wolf lost his Tail".

- Fairy tales and supernatural encounters: stories deeply rooted in Scottish folklore involving various fairy types, their interactions with humans and often magical or cautionary outcomes. This includes things like "The Fairies of Scotland" , "The Fairy and the Miller's Wife" and accounts of "The Brownie, The Bogle, The Kelpy, Mermen, [and] Demons".

- Witchcraft, comic and literary tales: the collection also includes narratives centered on witchcraft, such as "The Witch of Laggan" , humorous stories like "The Wee Bunnock" and more elaborate "Literary Tales" such as "The Haunted Ships".

Together, these books cover a wide breadth of classic stories and offer a deep look into Scotland’s mythic and folkloric past.

Make sure to check the listing photos for the exact contents lists, condition and examples of the writing!

Please note: there are a few illustrations in Wonder Tales and quite a few more in Scottish Fairytales - they are fairly low-res. It also goes without saying that as this is a historical text, you can expect some outdated language and terminology.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD YOUR BOOKS:

You'll receive an email from Etsy with download links for the .pdfs after purchase - you will also be able to find your digital downloads in your account under "Purchases". There are no watermarks in the purchased ebooks, this is only for the listing images!

These files are not designed for printing. They should print ok at small book size but I am not responsible for printing results!

About These Digital Editions:

I have carefully repackaged these scanned books for modern use. They feature brand new covers designed by me, removal of redundant or blank pages and light formatting adjustments to improve readability. The files have also been compressed to around 2/3 their original size without compromising on visual quality - making them quicker to download, easier to store and more convenient to use across devices.

Condition:

Both books were in excellent condition at the time of scanning, with clean pages and clear text throughout. You may come across the occasional light pencil mark or minor imperfection typical of vintage originals, but nothing that affects readability or overall quality.

This is part of my Mythfolks Archive collection - recovered and repackaged historical texts made accessible for modern readers with an interest in folklore, mythology and cultural symbolism.

A note about vintage texts:

It probably won’t come as a surprise, but people in the past didn’t write quite the way we do now! Expect long sentences, poetic phrasing and the occasional moral detour or outdated language.

As a digital product, this item is not returnable - please do get in touch if you have any questions before purchase!
