Six French Antique Lead Crystal Knife Rests

A beautiful set of six French vintage lead crystal knife rests. From around the 1900s, They have a lovely "corinthian pillar" style which makes them quite individual. They are in nice age related condition for their great age, though there may be the odd nibble here and there (I have inspected them but it is hard to tell).

In France, the custom is that you keep the same set of cutlery (unless you really are uber posh, like a count!) throughout the whole meal, so it makes sense to have a rest for the knife and avoid messing up the tablecloth. For everyday meals, the majority of French households have wax tablecloths, so it matters less.

Anyway, these are a lovely way of adding a French flourish to the table. Made by the renowned Cristallerie de Sèvres.

The "Cristallerie de Sèvres" was founded in 1756 by the Marquise de Pompadour.

In 1870, the "Cristallerie de Sèvres" and a crystal factory in Clichy merged under the name "Cristalleries de Sèvres et Clichy Réunis". This merger provided it with the equipment and experience necessary for the production of moulded and pressed glass by iconic designers of the Art Deco era such as René Lalique, Jean Luce, Edmond Etling, Pierre d'Avesn, Marius Sabino, etc.

A charming set of knife rests, stamped with the "SEVRES DEPOSE" logo, (hard to spot though!) that will twinkle merrily in candlelight, and add a chic touch to your dinner table.

They will be wrapped individually to ensure they arrive in pristine condition, so apologies in advance for the time it may take to unwrap them! The box they'll arrive in will appear a little "OTT" but past experience has told me to be extra careful.

I scour brocantes, vide greniers, auctions, and all sorts of nooks and crannies to find wonderful old French treasures and it is a passion that grows greater by the day. Where I can I give the story behind each item as they too have had a life and are now looking for their own new story ... So I am happy that these long lost items are going to new homes.

I describe my items to the best of my ability but please remember these are antique or vintage items and not every single flaw may be listed, It is part of the charm of bygone times and have had a previous life and could tell many stories.

Please note my shipping costs are just that - I use recycled boxes where possible but bubble wrap, fuel and time are not included in the shipping to keep costs down for you, the customer. If you wish to purchase more than one item please ask me for the combined shipping cost. I am happy to reserve items until I've worked out the final cost. In any event, I do refund shipping differences.

I aim to post within 24 hours if I can. I use La Poste for small packets up to 2kg, and economy (but reliable) courier Mondial Relay or Happy Post for bulkier/heavier items. Everything is tracked for peace of mind.

Mondial Relay is used for domestic shipping for most items.
