Highlights
A lovely piece of cast iron ready for the kitchen or camp. It is marked "Smart" and "8" with a Diamond G brand stamp. Manufactured at the James Smart Mfg. plant in Brockville, Ont. Operated from 1854 to 1965. Teardrop handle fits seamlessly in the hand, and the walls have two pour spouts. This piece is likely circa 1920s.
The "G in Diamond" logo refers to Gardiner Tool of Montreal which was acquired by Smart in the late 1890s. It had positive brand recognition. We can tell it's an early piece as the company trademark would later change from block "SMART" and large Diamond G in a circle to a modern-styled "Smart's" with a smaller G in diamond.
