🌸 About the Hibachi & Makie Technique
This charcoal brazier, known as a hibachi, was traditionally used in Japanese households to boil water or gently warm a room. It is designed to hold a copper or ceramic inner bowl for ash and charcoal.
The Makie (蒔絵) technique used in its decoration is a classical Japanese lacquer art, where powdered metals like gold or silver are delicately sprinkled onto wet lacquer to form shimmering floral designs. The motifs of chrysanthemum and susuki (silver grass) signify longevity and seasonal transition in Japanese aesthetics.
