The Prince Albert Sapphire Brooch
This is another addition to our Royal Brooch Collection.
Given as a wedding gift to Queen Victoria by Prince Albert the night before their wedding in 1840, the brooch has a large royal blue Burmese sapphire approximately 118 carats surrounded by 12 diamonds of around 1 carat each.
Queen Victoria wore the brooch on her wedding day it was obviously a great favourite of hers. She was often seen wearing the brooch until the death of Prince Albert in 1861.
Upon her death the brooch was left to the crown and was subsequently worn by Queen Alexandra, Queen Mary, and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. None of these wore the brooch regularly.
Later after her accession in 1952, The Prince Albert’s Sapphire Brooch passed to Queen Elizabeth ll and became one of her most worn brooches. Obviously the brooch was a favourite jewell, it was worn to many important events, including the Christening of the Duke of Cambridge in 1982.
Towards the end of her reign Elizabeth rarely wore the Prince Albert’s Sapphire Brooch. The Brooch was next seen when Queen Camilla wore it on a State Visit to Germany in 2023, hopefully this beautiful brooch will become a favourite of Queen Camilla’s and will be seen much more.
Probably one of the most valuable brooches in the royal collection reportedly worth around £8,000,000. Our Version will sell for £60
