This piece is a modern interpretation of ancient Japanese clay figures known as dogū.
In the Jōmon period of ancient Japan, people created clay figurines as part of their prayers. It is said to have been a peaceful, egalitarian culture that existed before the formation of the nation.
The inside is hollow, allowing you to place incense or flowers inside.
There is something deeply moving about placing flowers in a dogū—an object once made by ancient people for prayer—connecting the past with the present.
Each piece is handmade, so there may be slight variations from the photos.
