Montefortino helmets are characterized by their conical or rounded shape, featuring a raised central knob (often referred to as a crest knob), a protruding neck guard, and cheek plates to protect the sides of the head. Common decorative elements include a "rope"-type pattern around the edge and a "pinecone"-type patterning on the crest knob. These helmets were typically made from bronze, though iron versions also existed. The design was practical, offering protection without significantly hindering the soldier's mobility.
