It is often used for meditation and ritual practices. This traditional shawl has been worn for centuries in the mountains on the Indo-Tibetan border and in the foothills of the Himalayas.

This Ngakpa Zen has the traditional burgundy and white striped pattern zones and also has a black stripe in the weave, distinguishing it from the solid maroon shawls of ordained monks. The Nagpa Meditation Shawl is made of medium-weight cotton with a delicate fringe on both ends.

KEY FEATURES OF THE ERI SILK NGAKPA SHAWL:

1. HANDWOVEN :
This Ngakpa Buddhist Meditation Wrap is purely hand-made, hand-loomed in the Himalayan mountains by a small community of artisans.

2. MATERIAL: ERI SILK :
Known as bu-ray (insect cloth) in Bhutan and Tibet and as Eri in India, this rugged wild silk fabric is made from the pierced cocoon of the Attacus Ricini moth whose larvae feed on the leaves of the castor oil tree, in the jungles of Assam. Popular in Bhutan and Tibet, eri silk was imported from Assam for centuries and traditionally used for monk’s shawls and the famed Tibetan shirt. Because the silk is harvested after the worm has emerged, it is considered ‘non-violent’ silk.

3. COMFORT & FEEL:
Our beautiful Ahimsa Raw Eri Silk Buddhist Tantric Meditation Shawl has a texture and a natural feel.
Eventhough, it looks rough it has a wonderful feel and will become softer with regular use. Eri combines the warmth of wool and the softness of silk. An everlasting fabric, it ages with grace and comfort, developing a sheen and supple drape that molds to the body.

4. TEMPERATURE REGULATION:
Eri Silk is versatile for different climates, providing warmth during cooler sessions and a light, airy feel in warmer weather. Silk is said to have energetically insulating properties which can be a great help for the meditator. But what is coolest about this fabric is that it maintains a constant temperature. Hence, it is an all-weather fashion.

5. SUSTAINABLE FABRIC :
It is a sustainable, eco-friendly fiber as the raw material used in the production cycle – being the silkworms and the castor leaves they eat – comes from nature and can be regrown/multiplied quickly, and the environment is not disturbed in any way during the process.

5. SIZE :
They are typically oversized or generously sized to provide ample coverage, allowing you to wrap yourself comfortably.

6. SKIN-FRIENDLY :
Eri is a really cool handloom textile. Being a 100% natural fabric, it is suitable for sensitive and hypoallergenic skin.it is very friendly for the skin. It ages gracefully and becomes softer with time.

7. NON-VIOLENT PEACE SILK :
Eri silk is also called peace silk as the moths that generate the silk are not killed before the silk is spun. Ahimsa silk is produced after the silk moth has left its cocoon, making it a cruelty-free fabric. "Ahimsa" means non-violence in Sanskrit. Ahimsa is an ancient practice of not harming any living creature, from human beings to the simplest of Earth's creatures. It means non-aggression, not only in action but even in thought. Made in this state of non-aggression, this shawl carries a powerful, peaceful vibration, reminding the meditator to seek peace during meditation

6. SYMBOLISM AND USES :
The shawl serves several purposes, including providing warmth during meditation, creating a personal sacred space, and symbolizing the practitioner's commitment to the Vajrayana path
The Ngakpa tradition refers to practitioners of Vajrayana who maintain a householder lifestyle rather than becoming celibate monastics. The distinctive red and white shawl is a visible aspect of their tradition and lineage.
