ABOUT THE STORY
The story of Noah's Ark appears in Genesis chapters 6 through 9. God instructs Noah to build an ark and to bring two of every living creature, male and female, into it, to keep them safe through the flood. The painting captures the moment of the entry: pairs of animals walking calmly across the landscape toward the ark before the rain begins, with two doves crossing the sky overhead. After the flood, God hangs a rainbow in the sky as the sign of His covenant. The Genesis 6–9 arc is the Bible's first covenant story, and one of the most-told stories in Christian children's books and nursery decoration.
