CURLY VARIEGATED SPIDER PLANT
Chlorophytum comosum ‘Bonnie’

A FOUNTAIN OF CREAM, GREEN AND LIVING SPIRALS

Chlorophytum comosum ‘Bonnie’ takes the familiar grace of the classic spider plant and reshapes it into something far more sculptural. Narrow green leaves, marked by luminous creamy-white striping, curl, twist and spiral as they mature, gathering into a dense rosette with movement in every direction.

The result is a plant that feels animated even while standing still. Young foliage rises and arcs from the center, while established leaves develop increasingly expressive curves and loops. No two plants create exactly the same arrangement, and the silhouette becomes more dramatic as the rosette gains fullness.

THE BONNIE CHARACTER

‘Bonnie’ is prized specifically for its naturally curling foliage. Where a traditional variegated spider plant forms a cleaner fountain of straighter leaves, this cultivar develops waves, spirals and compact folds that create a softer, more dimensional form.

Its green-and-cream palette is beautifully suited to warm wood, black or white ceramics, natural stone and layered foliage displays. Elevated placement gives the leaves space to move freely and becomes even more striking once mature runners begin to extend beyond the parent plant.

MATURE RUNNERS, FLOWERS & SPIDERETTES

One of the most captivating stages of a mature spider plant is the development of long arching runners. Under favorable growing conditions, these stems may carry small white flowers followed by miniature plantlets, commonly called spiderettes, pups or babies.

As those runners lengthen, the plant changes from a compact curly rosette into a cascading botanical display. The parent plant remains sculptural at the center while the developing offsets create movement below and around it.

Once sufficiently developed, spiderettes can be rooted to create additional plants. They may be encouraged to root while still attached to the parent or separated later for propagation, making ‘Bonnie’ especially rewarding for collectors who enjoy growing, multiplying and sharing plants.

SELECT YOUR PLANT

Choose your preferred available selection from the dropdown. Pot measurements refer to the nursery container rather than the overall spread of the foliage. Options describe different stages of development, and any selection specifically marked with babies includes developing spiderettes.

WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE

One live, rooted Curly Variegated Spider Plant in the selected option, grown in its nursery pot with growing medium. Your plant will have its own arrangement of curls, foliage density, runners and developing growth, reflecting the naturally individual structure of the cultivar.

BOTANICAL PROFILE

Botanical name: Chlorophytum comosum ‘Bonnie’
Common names: Curly Spider Plant, Bonnie Spider Plant, Variegated Curly Spider Plant
Plant type: Evergreen tropical perennial
Growth habit: Compact rosette with arching, curling foliage
Foliage: Green leaves with creamy-white variegation
Mature feature: Arching runners with small white flowers and developing spiderettes

DISPLAY & FORM

‘Bonnie’ is particularly beautiful where its silhouette can be appreciated from several angles. A plant stand, elevated shelf or hanging presentation allows the curls to fall naturally and gives developing runners space to extend.

Its compact rosette also works beautifully as a tabletop focal point while young. As the plant matures, the addition of runners creates a second layer of movement, transforming the display without changing the distinctive curled foliage at its center.

CARE FOR BEAUTIFUL GROWTH

Light
Provide bright, indirect or gently filtered light. A well-lit position supports strong growth, attractive variegation and a full rosette. Protect the foliage from prolonged harsh direct sun.

Water
Water thoroughly when the upper portion of the growing medium begins to dry, then allow excess water to drain freely. Spider plants appreciate steady care during active growth but should not remain continuously saturated.

Growing medium
Use a well-draining indoor mix that retains some moisture while allowing good aeration around the roots. A nursery pot or planter with drainage is important.

Humidity and placement
Comfortable indoor temperatures and ordinary-to-moderate humidity suit this adaptable tropical plant. Protect it from frost, cold drafts and abrupt temperature extremes.

Foliage care
Low-mineral water can be helpful where tap water is especially hard, as spider plants can show cosmetic leaf-tip browning in response to mineral accumulation. Trim older tips only if desired for presentation.

Growth and propagation
Allow mature runners to develop naturally for a cascading display, or root spiderettes once they have developed enough growth. Gentle pruning of older foliage can keep the rosette looking refined while preserving its natural form.

ARRIVAL & ACCLIMATION

Unpack promptly and gently release the foliage from its packaging. Place the plant in suitable indirect light, check the growing medium before watering and allow it time to settle before repotting.
