Handmade Mushroom Mug: Sculpted Toadstools, Drippy Blue Glaze

This gorgeous mushroom mug was hand made over several days in my tiny back garden studio.
This one is blue with LOTS of hand sculpted green leaves and red mushrooms. I am very happy with the way that it turned out.

The mug in the photos is the mug you will receive. This is a lovely style of mug - slim top, bulbous bottom!
I hand make individual items one at a time in my tiny back garden studio - a few items a week. I made another one at the same time that is slightly lighter, with larger leaves - they are a bit more expensive because the leaves take a long time to make. It is on a different listing. This one is VERY leafy! It has a turquoise, splotchy, drippy glaze with patches of green in it and it is quite heavy.

This is a swoopy shape of ceramic mug made from earthenware clay and hand painted glaze.
First I made the initial mug shape, then hand fettled it and hand sculpted the mushrooms and vines, adding them as it dried. This is an extra leafy one, which takes a lot longer to make. And doesn't the effect look gorgeous!
I then bisque fired the mugs for 24 hours, then let them cool.
Next I hand painted the glaze on to it in a variety of different shades of turquoise blue and forest green, with orange and red for the toadstools to provide a nice contrast. I added texture over the top to make the mushrooms look like iconic flyagaric toadstools!
It returned to the kiln for a further 24 hours with a top coat of transparent glaze to make it waterproof and textured accents. The base is unglazed.
I LOVE this new style!

It would make a lovely present for someone who likes to go mushroom foraging, or a gardener, or as a 9th anniversary gift (ceramics) or a keen botanist or mycologist - someone who studies or likes fungi. It would suit a country cottage garden aesthetic or help to create a bohemian vibe.

It is more decorative than functional. Yes, it functions as a mug but due to its many protuberances and hand made nature, it is likely to be damaged quickly if used on a regular basis or washed in a sink or dishwasher. I would use it as a decorative piece.
I put paintbrushes and flowers and wooden spoons in mine, plus use them as planters!
